Road to Formula Drift Indonesia
At 17th of July 2010, there's an event that took place at JIExpo Jakarta. That event was a drift practice for preparation for Formula Drift Indonesia 2010 that will take place this October. This event was held to give other drifters an invitation or you can say a "License" for them to participate in Formula D events in South East Asia. For some who don't know, Formula Drift is a professional drift event that requires an invitation to participate. So we can't just register and participate. From the morning, I can see that the crews walking around and set the drift track in the middle of an open area. The track itself is very friendly for novice drivers because they use tires as a barrier between the track and the public areas, so if someone crashes it will not (well, a little....) damage the car. Unlike before, the drift event that was held by the same organization made the barriers more challenging by using concrete.
Before the practice starts we have some time to relax and walk around the track. Like our friend Bram, he just relax and walked around while his very iconic yellow E36 drift car sat down in a perfect condition.
Baginda Jaya's 1G-GE powered GX71 a.k.a Toyota Cressida was the car that we used to drift on that day. Yes we used it to drift on that day, because we can use one registered car for two drivers.
Talking about stance, I saw two KE70s park side by side. But still, I can't resist the "wow" effect on of the Corolla DX that belongs to Fatsi Hakim. This is actually a drift car still under construction.
After a while we were gathered to do some briefing with Rhenadi Arinton (this guy is the Drift King from Indonesia). During the briefing we were told that this track was made according to Formula D standards. Because everyone still busy with their own assignments as a crew, I saw one of the main photographer Mas Adi, was very busy doing something so he must put down his camera and finish what he was doing during the briefing. After briefing we take a little tour of the track.
This is Fatsi Hakim with his "manly" Canon Lens. This guy is the owner of the previous Corolla DX that I talked about. If you want to know more about his car's great story, you can check it out in his BLOG.
Because I participate on the event itself as a drifter, the rest of the photos was taken by my friend Ganesh Aji Wicaksono using my camera.
Dean using his E36, as usual he did his very best of going sideways....
Finally, this is me while drifting Baginda Jaya's GX71. You can see the hand on the door is actually the owner of the car. He's very enjoying the drift both as a driver or a Co-Driver.
Lucky Reza, it's rare to seeing him going all out like this. Maybe because he wanted to go back to Aussie to finish his semester this year so he is giving all he has to show his very high end skills to everyone and also hope for the invitation like everyone does.
The style of Baginda in his GX71 reminds me of those drifters in Ebisu, Japan.....
This is me in my helmet waiting for my turn to drive the GX71......
You know, it's hard to find FC3S in Jakarta these days, but on that day someone just brought it to the scene! Even though is not used for drifting.
The red ceffy belongs to Rio is also moving sideways in a very "sangar" manner. (sangar is fierce in Indonesian language)
Me in the blue racing suit and Baginda "dede" Jaya with happy faces......
Johan Fajito in his R32 converted Cefiro also looks very happy with this event.
Lucky Reza was caught doing some narcissistic moves. LOL (So sorry Lucky! ^^)
As usual Wawan in his S13 doing some crazy drifts......
Not to mention the Indonesian Drift King himself Rhenadi Arinton also tried the course.
After dark, we all got a debriefing and we all packed up and went back to our own places. It was a very fun day back then until we feel the "capek tapi senang" (translation : tired but happy) on the evening.
